William Garrett Morton and Lucy Wade Morton began Morton Movers in the late 1890s. Leaving the Virginia plantations they migrated up north to Baltimore City to begin a new life of family and entrepreneurship. Them along with their 8 children they would set roots in Sugar Hill of Baltimore City becoming one of the African American families as a major force in politics, society, business, education, and labor.
Raymond Morton son of William and Lucy Morton began Morton Modern Movers along with his wife Muriel Morton in the late 1950s. First in the transportation business with limousine services and later in the trucking business with his wife, partner, and 7 boys and 2 girls in Baltimore City.
Morton Modern Movers continues to this day the heritage that was started over 120 years ago soon after the Emancipation Proclamation. Today the legacy continues as the world shifts and enters a new era of transportation, logistics, and development.
